Born on the 17th of April 1962, Datuk Fadillah hails from the State of Sarawak where he had his primary education in Sarawak at St. Mary Primary School, Sibu and secondary education at SMK Panglima Bukit Gantang, Parit Buntar prior to pursuing his tertiary education at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
Upon graduating from the University of Malaya with LLB (Hons) in 1986, Datuk Fadillah went into legal practice and became a partner of Abdul Rahim, Razak, Tready, Fadillah & Co. Advocates.
His foray into politics saw him elected as a Member of Parliament in 2004 where he subsequently held various positions both in the government and corporate sectors. He was the Chairman of the Sarawak Branch of the Federal Vehicles Licensing Board and a Board Member of the Institute of Language and Literature (Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka), Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (FAMA), Kuching Water Board and Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIpo).
In the corporate sector, Datuk Fadillah was the Chairman of Shorefield Engineering Sdn Bhd and served as Director of various companies including KACC Construction, OBYU Corporate Services Sdn Bhd, CMS Wires Sdn Bhd and Cascara Holdings Sdn Bhd. Datuk Fadillah also served as the Company Secretary of both Electra House Sdn Bhd and Hiliran Laksana Sdn Bhd.
In 19th March 2008, Datuk Fadillah was elevated to the post of Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation and holds the position till to date.
In recognition of his contributions to the state, Datuk Fadillah was conferred the titles of Ahli Bintang Sarawak (ABS) and Darjah Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang (PGBK) in 2003 and 2010 respectively by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak.
